Cabarrus County

The Arc of Cabarrus County became its own 501(c)(3) in 1971.  In 2013, The Arc of Cabarrus County merged with the Arc of Union County to become The Arc of Union/Cabarrus.  We have had a rich history of providing advocacy services to the residents of our county ensuring that people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities are included in the comunity.

Our Concord office is located at the heart of downtown Concord, on South Union Street in the Piedmont Renaissance Center building.

Aktion Club

In conjunction with the Monroe Kiwanis Club, The Arc has joined forces to sponsor a service club for adults with developmental disabilities. The club meets monthly with an agenda to foster service to other charities in Union County. The Arc provides support and meeting space for these individuals with developmental disabilities in the Aktion Club.

The Aktion Club of Monroe usually meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Calvary Baptist Church located at 2518 Lancaster Highway, Monroe, NC. Contact Steve McIllwain at (704) 261-1550 ext. 202 or for information about Aktion Club activities.

First In Families of the Southern Piedmont

We serve as the housing agency for a local FIF chapter. First In Families (serving Union, Cabarrus, Stanly, Rowan, and Davidson counties) is a family support initiative operated by a family/consumer management team, providing supports to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their family member(s). We have the funding and ability to provide small grants (as our funds and policies allow) to qualifying individuals to distribute funds for emergency expenses, special equipment or non-covered medical needs. We also leverage these dollars so that this becomes an initiative to empower, not enable, our community. Please call Cindy Carroll at 704-261-1550 x 204 for more information.

Circle of Parents

Circle of Parents is a parent-led and professionally facilitated parent support group program that gives parents the opportunity to share in each other’s challenges and successes while developing a network of support. Our bilingual (Spanish) Circle of Parents group focuses on the successes and challenges of raising children from birth to age 5 with special needs.  Participants learn how to advocate for their children and how to parent in a positive way. They also build leadership skills and gain a network of support.
