Many people with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families have tried unsuccessfully or have not had the confidence to travel by air. The sights, sounds and movement by thousands of people in a busy airport can be overwhelming. Wings for All®, a national initiative of The Arc, gives people with autism and other intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families the opportunity to participate in an airport rehearsal program to help them feel more comfortable with air travel.
Each Wings for All® event brings together people with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities, their families, plus employees and volunteers from Chapters of The Arc, the airport, airlines and TSA. When you sponsor a Wings event, you can connect with a broad and loyal consumer segment and promote your concern for your community. Events are being scheduled now in airports throughout the country, so contact The Arc today to get involved.

“I don’t have the words to adequately express my thanks for this evening’s Wings for Autism event. My daughter, Katie, who speaks mostly in scripted phrases, turned to me (after the amazing water cannon display at the end of our plane ride) and said, “We had fun on the plane!” That was a moment I will always treasure!! We have been so concerned about how Katie would deal with the plethora of unknowns associated with air travel and you have now made future air travel a reality for us!! Too many times, as a parent of a child with ASD, you feel like doors are closed to your child and/or your family. Well, tonight, you gave her wings!! Thank you!” -Donna G. (parent and Wings for All™ Charlotte attendee)
“Thanks a lot for the opportunity. We had a wonderful experience and heart-felt thanks to your entire team, volunteers, Charlotte airport authorities, TSA, Delta, Wendy, flight crew and the therapy pet dogs. As a family we loved all the compassion shown around us. Thanks for organizing this for our kids. Our major issue was waiting and also keeping the tray table up and I can say my little one did much better and I am hoping our upcoming summer vacation is going to be good. Special thanks to the surprise given by the Fire department with the water spray as a part of our event. It was definitely wonderful experience for everyone even the parents. Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved.” – Krithika R. (parent and Wings for All® Charlotte attendee)
